Well I'm interested in doing stuff in Second Life, haven't had time to do much there yet, but once my friend has got her name set up we'll try building things Would it be a good idea to set up an informal meeting in SL so that anyone interested could meet up there and talk about how we might do things in that space? Your friend is geopedia.pbworks.com/Nalen-HythlodayHa ha, darn, you know before I do

Buck: I'm not sure trying to force engagement is what should happen, but maybe doing events where other Geodecians think 'oh shit I missed that, it looked good' rather than doing another Outpost, or something that has gone before. Prehaps an event with initially a smaller amount of commitment may help.

We'd have to choose new last names then?! I've always thought SL would be a far more engaging place for a virtual meeting, than this forum Having had meetings in there before it is both more engaging, and more distracting. An demands more technical and login requirements. That said, I think it is something we should pursue.

We thought the forum was a good place to start, as it is easier for some people who are unfamiliar or can't use SL

I am up for a meeting in Second Life to, I have not really tried it before but I would of thought it would be a better place to meet than here, lets give it a try.
Re: Names, I was thinking my SL Name would be like Buckeliphas .....(something) to retain my Geo name in some form. Shame it can not be double barreled.

Prehaps an event with initially a smaller amount of commitment may help. I think I already agree with this, I think this forum was thought about as a way of starting a new chapter rather than just continuing with a format that has resulted in some, but limited, success. The Outposts are simply too much for most people to commit to even if they would like to be involved in other ways.

One of the problems with the project is as you have admitted that the Geodecians dont have 'the answer', it is there to be found. Maybe the Geodecians need to claim to have 'the answer.' I think that's a dangerous claim, we don't want to lie to people to get them to join "I think if we're seen to be an engaged and active group people will naturally want to join" This is a good point Miranda. How do we promote ourselves to demonstrate this? Well I'm awful at promoting things, not to mention I think I'm secretly against it on moral grounds, but perhaps I meant just getting on with things and talking about it to people

Good point Yahoo, I wonder if the rest of the community felt that kind of feeling when they watched the Muffin King Video on Youtube, I wonder what other activites might stimulate that same feeling?

Buck: It could be double barreled if you do Buck_Eliphas-(something) ... I assume only letters and numbers allowed - hence my name in SL mentioned above, was the best I could do

guys, I've got to go now. The basic gist of my engagement is. I like the Geodecity project. I like to have an excuse to spend some time in the country with my friends and to have free food /travel. I like the concepts and ideas the Geodecity project is exploring (especially the arguments!) Not sure whether I want to actively run any aspect of it, but happy to participate and add my two pennies worth when asked. have a lovely evening,
Beverley x

I think that working on the community-content would be a good thing for the Geodecians to focus on, as said (somewhere) above, maybe this could be done partly online, with shorter events maybe to create some form of cultural 'events'? I'd say that this could work with the kind of events like DCA and The Event, creating a sort of public celebration... this could look fun enough for people to want to join us spontaneously!

I think we want to talk about what the Geodecians do next - what practically do we want to do, start talking about specific examples of things that we are all interested in and would be willing to be involved in.[/quote]
I'm also keen on developing the expo idea, I've never done anything for an exhibition space before so there would be a learning curve involved but I'd like to be involved in some sort of interactive gallery work, perhaps with a bit of the feel of the function events but different - function v in birmingham @ spectacle was awesome and geodecity worked well in the gallery space at dca, and this, from the evidence of the dca presence, is a good time to promote the project and gain new interest.
I'd like something on a utopia-dystopia theme with the conflict-or-resolution aspects explored, maybe where the guests become involved and choose which group to associate with - the utopic, dystopic or a third something-else group? perhaps guests' choices and actions influence things such as how each of the three societies evolves (and different guests are given different possibilities/motivations etc, some chosen by other guests?) and exhibits/elements are created, destroyed and rebuilt in 'live' exhibition time based around guests interactions.
these could be recorded in various ways and only revealed to visitors after the event so they don't quite know what is steering events?
and we kidnap gangband for the end of event utopia geoffrey party!
