we could propose some kind of more permanent dome and the dome could have a purpose that fits with the curriculum
so the dome fits with all shapes and what not
and then the purpose could fit with something else???

I'm not entirely certain what the grounds of this school are like, but we taught outside all the time at the Parks Primary School and personally think that would be most interesting here as well What kind of things did you teach outside Formio?

maybe like a mini SL or sims or some kind of purpose built programme.... not sure how we'd get that

I think a permanent dome would be great, when we did visioning workshops with the kids at Parks Primary they were really excited by the idea of permanent domes for them to use in break times.
What materials should they be made of?

yeah, meant to be 18 to be on SL, but i think they have a teen area.
Frankly, just planning a dome related learning area is mathsy enough, and then we can just think what might be interesting to us to do. main issue would be making it safe for them to work in and to be long-lasting

So what would be interesting for us to do? A star-dome has been mentioned before, which I quite like

hmm, could we build an open-ish dome out of wood? with just the top part filled in to protect from rain? i mean logs and stuff - a kind of log-cabin dome?

i have an old magazine somewhere that shows you how to make a permanent geodesic dome...i'll try and find it
i think they were all about wood and cloth
but i guess eco peoples know about making permanent ones maybe we could make it out of felt ...like a yurt?

I suppose we fit into geometry and measures perfectly!

The other thing I'd be quite interested in exploring is solar cookers as well, I quite liked the one we made for the last outpost, but I think we could build a more durable one.

all this national curriculum type talk seems quite interesting...
1.
Combining understanding, experiences, imagination and reasoning
to construct new knowledge.
2.
Using existing mathematical knowledge to create solutions to unfamiliar problems. 3.
Posing questions and developing convincing arguments.
Recognising the rich historical and cultural roots of mathematics. 4.
Engaging in mathematics as an interesting and worthwhile activity.
