They seemed very happy, the kids really got into it and the teachers said it was great and that there were loads of things they had learnt about that they could see the practical applications of (they particularly liked the Solar Cooker, and also mentioned maths related to the domes and their construction).

star gazing dome... maybe with a perspex (or some kind of see through) ceiling that you can draw constellations on
maybe we should look at the maths curriculum??

One of the thoughts I had for the maths is that maybe it would help to ring up the person dealing with the applications and ask what exactly the maths curriculum is like for Year 7 as I have no idea!

Indeed! And that would also cover the outdoor classroom idea, and depending on materials, maybe also something that can be left on site for the school?

Yeah, just domes and triangles should fit in somewhere, but needs to be more than that i guess

but maybe that's up to the teachers, to take what we'd do and set them work to do with it?

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan, maybe if we decide tonight on a few things that we think would be interesting, then ring up the school or contact person and get the specifics on what they're after and then combine those 2 together?

I'd like to try making things out of tetrahedrons perhaps, maybe tie it into some Second Life stuff, they make things and we try to make them in SL?

Hey all, Miranda poked me about this. It sounds very much like forest schools www.forestschools.com/ I did a bit of work with The Wildlife Trusts in previous years at Centre of The Earth, which was a really great outdoor learning environment. One of the things I really liked there was the outdoor classroom. Essentially it was just a small amphitheatre, but we often found ourself teaching outside. Would something like that be out of the scope of this project?

That would be interesting, I'm guessing you have to be 18 to play with SL?
